Alien 5 Still Happening, Prometheus 2 Shooting First

With the news that Ridley Scott's Prometheus 2 will finally shoot early next year, the status of the fifth official Alien movie has become somewhat uncertain. However, it seems that the film continues to be developed, with District 9 director Neill Blomkamp still at the helm.
Last summer, Variety reported that Fox had signed a deal with Blomkamp to make Alien 5, and stars Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn have both spoken of their potential involvement in the project. However, the disappointing box office for Blomkamp's robot adventure Chappie, combined with Scott's plans to move ahead with a sequel to Prometheus--set in the same universe as Alien--have led to rumors that the project might be dead.

Windows 10 Can Find and Disable Pirated Games

[UPDATE] Although Microsoft is yet to provide official clarification on the matter, reports have suggested the EULA cited below pertains to Microsoft services, as opposed to the Windows 10 software itself.
This means the changes made to the license agreement were intended to protect against illicitly obtained Xbox Live and Windows Store content, not all pirated content on a PC.
GameSpot has asked Microsoft for a statement clarifying the policy and will update this story when it has been issued. [UPDATE ENDS]
Microsoft has updated its Windows 10 end user license agreement, revealing the latest version of its operating system is capable of identifying whether counterfeit software or unauthorised hardware is running, and disable it.
As brought to light by Alphr, section 7B of the EULA explains Microsoft's ability to immobilise pirated software and hardware.
"We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorised hardware peripheral devices," the notice read.
In effect, this means illegally acquired games running on PCs, Windows phones, and tablets can be disabled. Although it is not clear what is meant by "unauthorised hardware peripheral devices," controllers that have been modified to provide unfair advantages in games are the most probable target of this clause.
Despite the advent of services such as Steam, which employ DRM to protect content, piracy has continued to be a key feature of PC gaming, with software often shared through torrent sites.
Windows 10 is being positioned as a key part of Microsoft's video game business.
Among Windows 10's gaming oriented features is the ability to stream Xbox One games to the PC via the Xbox Gaming application. Additionally, Microsoft's has announced a number of games for PC including Fable Legends, which supports cross-play with Xbox One, and Halo Wars 2.

Batman:Dark Knight Review

Hey, it's the Batmobile! Over and over!

Scarecrow, Arkham Knight, and the legacy of the now-dead Joker loom large over this freedom. There is another, more surprising obstacle which you must overcome if you wish to retain your ownership of Gotham's skies, however: the Batmobile. For the first time in this series, you can leap into the iconic vehicle and zoom down the streets, drifting around tight turns and pursuing key vehicles as they speed away. The driving itself is slick and satisfying, as long as you can overlook Rocksteady's tendency to wrest away camera control to show you some dramatic sight or another. Yet there's no beating the incredible rush of using your line launcher to fling yourself through the sky--and it's worth mentioning that taking to the air is usually faster than settling behind the wheel. As a result, Arkham Knight is constantly trying to justify the Batmobile's presence, forcing it upon you at nearly every opportunity.

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void Gets a Free Prologue and July Beta

StarCraft II is getting another expansion, titled Legacy of the Void, at some unannounced point in the future. To hold players over, developer Blizzard is making a free prologue for it.
Called Whispers of Oblivion, this prologue will have three missions, including the first focusing on Zeratul since the Wings of Liberty expansion. According to the developer, Whispers of Oblivion is meant to bridge the story gap between the last expansion, called Heart of the Swarm, and the upcoming Legacy of the Void.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 Plays On Nostalgia to Great Effect

There was a time when anyone could pick up a pad and chase high-scores in a skating game. And then the Tony Hawk titles withered away, the Skate games came along with realistic physics and complex controls, and I became sad.
I have no ill-will towards EA’s Skate series, it was an impressively authentic realisation of skating and, as a person with multiple friends “about that skate life,” I got a buzz off how much they enjoyed the series.
But it was always bittersweet, as the thrills of a realistic skating experience in a video game were lost on me. I preferred the arcadey feel of the Tony Hawk’s series. In particular, the way it was so eager to positively reinforce my pathetic attempts at tricking with points--however meagre they were.

Why Fallout 4 Is Set in Boston

This year's post-apocalyptic role-playing game Fallout 4 is set in Boston. But why did Bethesda Game Studios choose Beantown for its setting? During a panel presentation today at E3 2015, game director Todd Howard offered an explanation, albeit a brief one.
"We debated for a while," Howard said, though he did not name any cities that were also in the running.
Fallout 4's post-apocalyptic Fenway Park
As for why Bethesda ultimately chose Boston, Howard pointed out that Fallout 3 contained references to the New England city, so going there with a full game was a logical next step. He also said that Boston's mix of history and technology (this robot dogwas built in Boston) makes it a good fit.
"We had had some seeds in Fallout 3. And we felt that Boston has the right mix of American history and high-tech," Howard said. "It's very good for Fallout."
Fallout 4 lead designer Emil Pagliarulo, who grew up in Boston, added, "There's a richness and a flavor to the city." He went on to say that playing the game has made him feel homesick.
Fallout 4 launches in November for Xbox OnePlayStation 4, andPC. We learned a lot more about the game this week at E3; check out some of the big stories below.

Fan Tries to Preorder Fallout 4 With Bottle Caps

Now that retailers are accepting preorders for Fallout 4, one superfan has attempted to pay for the game with bottle caps, which are the in-game currency for the post-apocalyptic RPG series.
Reddit user GatorMacheteJr explains:
"Fallout 3 was my favorite game for several years, so I made the rational choice to start saving up bottle caps. Turns out 4.5 years of undergrad and three years in a Master's program leads to a lot of drinking."

Pixomondo Game of Thrones Effects
“Game of Thrones” took a major detour from George R. R. Microsoft says open source Windows is "definitely possible"

Windows has been around for a long time, it's made a lot of money, and Microsoft, quite naturally, has been very protective of it. But the times, they are a-changin', and Microsoft may one day have to change with them in ways that once would have been unimaginable.
Windows 10

Want To Play The New Halo Online? Move To Russia

It’s becoming common for publishers to take their most popular franchises and retool them for foreign markets. Call of Duty recently launched in China, and a number of EA and 2K Sports titles have special editions for that country.
The latest game to get the word “online” tagged to the end is Halo, but it’s not coming to China. Instead, Microsoft, Saber Interactive, and Innova Systems are prepping the game for Russia.
Halo Online is designed to work on lower-end PCs (and therefore remain accessible to a wider range of gamers). It’s built on a modified version of the Halo 3 engine with an new setting, the UNSC space station Anvil.
The title is slated for availability as a closed beta in the spring, with no set launch date yet. It will be free-to-play and Microsoft will be testing the economy along with mechanics during the beta period.
[Source: Halo Waypoint]
Our Take
Creating unique versions of games with a free-to-play model and modified specifications is a winning strategy in China. It will be quite interesting to watch this develop in the Russian market. I’m eager to learn more about how Russian players differ from those of us in Europe and North America, as we did when discussing Call of Duty Online with Activision.

Watch Mortal Kombat X's Trailer Explain Faction Wars and More

NetherRealm developers discuss Mortal Kombat X's new features.

Developer NetherRealm has released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat X that explains the game's Faction Wars mode and other new features.
Faction Wars is an online, persistent metagame that every player with an internet connection will participate in. Each player will choose one out of five factions: White Lotus, Brotherhood of Shadow, Black Dragon, Special Forces, or Lin Kuei. Everything you do in the game, in single player or multiplayer modes, will contribute points to your faction. At the end of each week, the faction with the most point wins, and will earn special rewards.
The trailer also gives a quick look at the game's new dynamic towers, a series of challenges that will change on the hour, daily, or every few days.
We still don't know much about Mortal Kombat X's story mode, but if you liked what NetherRealm did with it in Mortal Kombat 9, it sounds like it won't disappoint. NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon said that the game's story will span 25 years, and director of art Steve Beran described it as a "blockbuster movie within the game itself."
GameSpot's Erick Tay and Peter Brown got to play these new Mortal Kombat X modes earlier this week. Check out the video below for their take.
Mortal Kombat X will be released this April for PS4Xbox OnePS3Xbox 360, and PC.
